Vipers have moved top of the Uganda Premier League after beating Kitara 2-0 at Masindi Stadium.
Danito Okello's own goal and the other from Abuaker Lawal saw Vipers move to 45 points, one above second-placed Kitara. However, the Venoms also have a game in hand.
The highly anticipated encounter saw both sides create numerous chances although a few were on target.
Vipers coach Richard Wasswa credited his players for the victory.
"We played with a lot of character and we knew what our opponents could offer. This is a big statement on our journey to winning the title. We still have more games to play and we should not be excited there is a lot to play for, " reasoned.
Vipers will return to action on Tuesday at home against Maroons. Kitara they will blame themselves for being wasteful.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo believes they failed to take their chances.
"We try to play to our expectations but we failed to take away the chances. But we also didn't defend well in the two games we played. But we shall bounce back," reasoned Ssenyondo. Kitara will travel to Wankulukuku to play Express in their next game on Wednesday.
